Final Project, Artist Statement
For the final project, I was inspired by a quote I found, "Imagine a world where the words you speak appear on your skin, would you be more careful of what you say? "- Ronit Bigal. This quote really inspired me and got me thinking creatively of what this might look like. I am planing on having a girl from the waist up covered in words that are coming out of her mouth. For what she is saying, I plan on having negative comments turn to positive, and showing the impact this concept would have on a person. Depending on how that goes, I also considered doing a triptych to show the gradual increase of words on her skin, as well as a positive change in her state of mind.
Interesting concept. That quote makes me think about the effect words have on other people, would maybe be interesting to have multiple people that are being influenced by one another.
ReplyDeleteCool idea! Might be interesting to use that technique that Ed showed us the other day with that Elvis picture. (For the words at least.) Sounds like a well thought out artist statement though!
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of the triptych, maybe showing the different reactions of her skin/outer appearance to the thoughts in her head. There's a lot you could do with lighting/color/texture to convey the difference between the bad thoughts and good thoughts. Interesting idea.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea, though, when I read the quote, I really thought about things that we say about other people behind their backs. Like, they usually wouldn't know about it but if the words showed up on our skin they would. This idea also makes me think of vulnerability.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how much you are into typography, but you could do some really cool stuff with different fonts for this project. Check the computers in the lab we don't use, or look up Lost Type Co-op if you want some options on that!
ReplyDeleteGreat quote. Great concept. So is the girl saying negative things about herself? or just in general? Either way would work.
ReplyDeleteSounds very interesting and tedious maybe, but yet rewarding. I think you will definitely learn something if you choose to go with this idea, and your audience (us) will too. I like where you are headed with the concept so far, keep going! :)
ReplyDeleteI respond to the narrative aspect of the triptych. Other than the context of each word consider other methods to communicate positive and negative reactions to words.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really creative idea. I would just say to be careful not to put too much typography on the graphic so that you don't lose the original image or completely invest yourself in the typography and do something like this: http://cdn.designrfix.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/iphone-wallpaper-abstract-design-24.jpg
ReplyDeleteMight be interesting to see the type going off of her body and into her surroundings, possibly having the words change as they leave her body, to show how things can get meddled sometimes when communicating.
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica
ReplyDeleteWow, can't see the print, but the online version of the last project sure looks good. ;-0)
We really need some image or thumbnail of some sort to visualize your solution and give you any honest and relevant feedback. I really like your ideas, would it be possible to art direct and shoot your own images? You might also like the displacement map tutorial on my Pinterest Boards to bend the type to make it look like it is going over the figures bodies, etc.
